AZ Clergy Eligibility for COVID-19 Vaccination

On February 2nd, 2021 Dr. Cara Christ, Director of the Arizona Department of Health Services and Maria Cristina Fuentes, Director of the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family, confirmed on a call with faith leaders that clergy are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination under Phase 1B. Dr. Christ confirmed that clergy are considered essential workers as outlined in the vaccination plan. The vaccination process is currently in prioritized Phase 1B. Dr. Christ expects the vaccination process to open up to the full Phase 1B group (which would include clergy) towards the end of February and/or beginning of March.

Please note it was confirmed in the call that you do not have to be a United States or Arizona citizen to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, but you will need to provide some sort of identification with your photo and name (this could be a school ID or badge). AFN has been told that data will not be shared with any other federal or state agencies. The only use for the data kept on file will be to send you a reminder and appointment link for your second vaccination.

Information about all vaccination sites across Arizona can be found at azhealth.gov/findvaccine. Those without computer access or needing extra help registering can call 1-844-542-8201 to be connected with someone who can assist. Assistance is provided in both English and Spanish. When you are eligible to receive the vaccination, you can make an appointment at podvaccine.azdhs.gov. To learn more about COVID-19 vaccines and vaccination, please visit azdhs.gov/COVID19Vaccines.

The Arizona Faith Network invites all faith leaders to use their voices to help promote the vaccination in their communities. Faith leaders are critical and trusted voices throughout this state. All faith leaders are invited to sign the Arizona Faith Leaders’ Statement and Pledge Regarding COVID-19 Vaccine to help promote vaccinations throughout Arizona.
