Glendale leaders this week stood up against hate after white supremacists littered four neighborhoods with racist flyers this summer.
The City Council on Tuesday condemned hate and discrimination and affirmed Glendale's commitment to equality and acceptance of marginalized individuals.
Mayor Jerry Weiers issued the proclamation, stressing its significance as "the soul of the city."
Heads of the Jewish Community Relations Council, Maricopa County NAACP, Chicanos Por La Causa, ONE Community, Council on American-Islamic Relations Arizona and Arizona Faith Network called on Weiers in an August letter to denounce the hateful flyers.
Paul Rockower, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, said he was grateful for the city's leadership in making residents feel protected, adding that the proclamation was a perfect example of "responsive government."
