TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Arizona faith leaders and community members are set to gather for an interfaith prayer vigil in Tucson to honor Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old Minneapolis nurse who was fatally shot by ICE agents. The vigil aims to grieve and advocate for human dignity and justice.

The event will take place on Monday, January 26, at 4:00 p.m. at the ICE Tucson Office on South Country Club Road. Clergy from various traditions will lead prayers and reflections, urging an end to practices that they say undermine human dignity.

“People of faith are called to stand publicly for human dignity, to resist policies that harm the vulnerable, and to bear witness to a love that refuses to look away,” Rev. Katie Sexton, Executive Director of Arizona Faith Network, said.

Reverend Bart Smith from the Good Neighbor Interfaith Coalition emphasized the faith community's role in protecting the vulnerable and upholding constitutional rights.

“Our sacred texts command us to welcome the stranger and protect the vulnerable. When families in our communities live in terror, when constitutional rights are trampled, people of faith cannot remain silent,” Smith said.
