Statement from the Arizona Faith Network

Today, our hearts are with our siblings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) as they face two moments of deep sorrow and significance.

First, we grieve the violence that unfolded this morning in Michigan, where a shooter opened fire during Sunday worship at an LDS meeting house. Acts of violence in sacred spaces strike at the very heart of our shared humanity and our most deeply held values. We condemn this violence in all its forms and hold the victims, their families, and the entire LDS community in prayer and solidarity.

Second, we join our LDS siblings in mourning the passing of President Russell M. Nelson, who led the Church with dedication and vision until his death today at the age of 101. President Nelson’s lifelong commitment to faith, service, and spiritual leadership leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire people across traditions.

In moments like these, we are reminded of the importance of standing together — across faiths, communities, and differences — to offer compassion, support, and peace. Arizona Faith Network stands with our LDS neighbors in grief and remembrance, and we reaffirm our shared commitment to building a world where every sacred space is safe and every community is held in love.
